WHITE WATER RAFTING

Rafting is a recreational activity utilizing a raft to navigate a river or other body of water. Usually it is done on whitewater of different degrees of difficulty, in order to thrill and excite the raft passengers. The development of this activity as a leisure sport has become popular since the mid 1980's.The type of raft used nowadays for recreational rafting is almost exclusively an inflatable boat. It consists of very durable, multi-layered rubberized fabrics with several independent air chambers. Its length varies between 3.5 m (11 ft) and 6 m (20 ft), the width between 1.8 m (6 ft) and 2.5 m (8 ft). Rafts come in a few different forms. In Europe the most common is the symmetrical raft steered with a paddle at the stern. Other types are the asymmetrical, rudder-controlled raft and the symmetrical raft with central helm (oars). Rafts are usually propelled with ordinary paddles and typically hold 4 to 12 persons.

The Guillemard Bridge

The Guillemard Bridge, over the Kusial River is also known as Kusial Bridge. It was constructed in 1920 by The Metro Carriage Wagon & Finance Company Limited, Wednesbury Works, England and completed in 1924 officiated by Sultan Ismail Ibni Almarhum Sultan Muhammad IV. During the Second World War (1941-1945) the bridge were severely damaged and thus re-built in 1948. It was officiated for the second time by Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Muhammad IV, the Sultan of Kelantan on the 7th September 1948. Spanning 609.6 meter, it was previously used by all vehicles but usage has been limited to train in 1st February1988 when the new concrete bridge connecting Tanah Merah to Machang was built. The bridge was named after the name of a British Straits Settlement Governor and The Malay States High Commisioner in 1920s, Sir Laurence Guillemard. It connects Paloh Rawa in Machang to Kursial in Tanah Merah crossing the murky Kelantan River and the bridge is still in use, acting as a vital link for the East Coast Train Line (KTMB) from Gemas to Tumpat. Surprisingly, The Guillemard Bridge was claimed as the Longest Railway Bridge in Malaysia. Look some of the photos that I’ve taken during a visit to this momentous bridge, walking from Paloh Rawa until Kusial for about half kilometers on the steel floor, losing my equilibrium only to get the best view of this bridge despite having Alto-phobia.

RENG MOUNTAIN (GUNUNG RENG)

Guning Reng is located near the North-East highway at Jeli and is approximately 15 minutes from Kampun Kalai.
Gunung Reng can be seen as a huge rock because it exists in an area that has no continuous series of mountains. According to the locals, Gunung Reng is a piece of rock brought down by God to destroy a village. This happened due to the evil and cruel activities by the past residence of the village and they deserved to be punished and vanish from the face of Earth.

All being said, the tale is legendary and has attracted many visitors to Gunung Reng to enjoy the beautiful nature and experience the clear and clean water from the river.
Research in and around Reng Mountain has unearthed evidence that the mountain was once inhabited. Today, the limestone caves of Reng mountain has become a tourist attraction.
